HYEBRIDGE TELEHEALTH PROGRAM IN ARMENIA SPEEDS UP

NEW YORK, New York — Armenia Fund hosted a teleconference on Evidence-based Medicine on October 2nd, 2014 at the Medical Science Library of Armenia in Yerevan.

The teleconference was attended by Armenia Fund USA’s board members Ms. Irina Lazarian, also the Managing Director of Howard Karagheusian Commemorative Corporation, New York, and Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan, also the project manager of Hyebridge Telehealth program of Armenia Fund, the director of the Medical Science Library of Armenia Ms. Anahit Shirinyan, as well as dozens of doctors (ophthalmologists and dentists) from Howard Karagheusian Medical Benevolent charitable organization.

Using Polycom installed by Armenia Fund in the library, a web conference was organized with the medical center in Stepanakert, where surgeons, neurologists and dialysis department staff representing various medical facilities of Stepanakert gathered.

In his opening speech, the project manager Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan explained the importance and relevance of Evidence-based Medicine. He also noted that teleconferences would be held regularly twice a month, and the announcements would be made through the calendar of Med-Practic.com website in advance.

After that, Dr. Ruben Hovhannisyan gave a speech on “Fundamentals of Evidence-based Medicine” topic. Ms. Anahit Shirinyan, the director of the Medical Science Library of Armenia, came up with a short presentation on "Medical literature search in a database and modern electronic library" topic.

The teleconference continued with an active dialogue and exchange of views between the two sides. It concluded with the final speech of Ms. Irina Lazarian, who emphasized that the program will be continuous, and workshops on specialized medical fields, including dentistry and ophthalmology, case presentations, as well as specific clinical practice reviews would be organized.

The following teleconferences are already set to take place:

  1. October 3, "Diabetic foot" by Dr. Jiro Bogossians, Glendale, California
  2. October 10, "Modern methods of osteoporosis treatment" by Dr. John P. Belizikyan, professor at Medical School of Columbia University, New York, NY
