ARTSAKH HOUSING PROJECT
Almost half of the Artsakh families with five and more children live in difficult social conditions.
While there is financial assistance to these families from the Government, it does not allow tackling the core housing problem faced by these households. Located in the distant villages of Artsakh, many of these families are deprived of owning their own house and often live in small shelters shared with other families. The lack of adequate housing possesses a whole range of problems starting from public health issues to unavailability of basic amenities.
Realizing the importance of supporting those large households, Hayastan All Armenian Fund launched a housing project in December of 2015. It is aimed at providing modern comfortable houses to the neediest families of Artsakh. The project covers construction of new houses in towns and villages across Artsakh, including Martakert, Martuni, Vorotan, Avetaranots, Vank, Nor Haykajur, Chankatagh, Mushkapat, Chartar, Khandzadzor, Mets Tagher, Aknaberd, Charektar, Yeghegnut, Mirik, Berdik, Krasni, Chapar, Kusapat, Mariamadzor, Noragyugh, Varanda, and Vurgavand.
The houses are single-story buildings with an area of about 100 square meters and 1000 square meters of enclosed outdoor area. Each has a living room, three bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. The buildings are provided with water, sewage and electrical systems.
The project also includes area upgrade and the fencing of the yard. Moreover, houses come fully furnished and feature all necessary home appliances, ready for occupancy.
As of July, 2017, 16 families have been provided with brand-new homes, and 16 more homes are under construction.
